Marathi is not totally different from Hindi. In fact, they are very, very similar. Many words (both nouns and verbs) are the same or similar with very little changes. Here are some examples:
Ready: Marathi = TaYaar, Hindi = TaiYaar
Start: Marathi = Suru, Hindi = Shuru
Renowned: Marathi = Hindi = prasiddha
To go: Marathi = DzAne, Hindi = JAna
Verb conjugation is different but both languages follow similar rules. In both languages, advanced words are derived from Sanskrit. Therefore, the languages share a large common vocabulary.
