In the following excerpt from সুকুমার রায়‘s হ য ব র ল:
বেড়ালটা খুশি হয়ে বলল, ‘হ্যাঁ, এ তো বোঝাই যাচ্ছে- চন্দ্রবিন্দুর চ, বেড়ালের তালব্য শ, আর রুমালের মা- হল চশমা । কেমন, হল তো ?’
I was wondering whether “বেড়ালের তালব্য শ” refers to the hissing sound scared cats produce. It does indeed sound a bit like a “palatal s” (শ), at least to my ears
