Archery is the sport, practice, or skill of using a bow to shoot arrows. The word comes from the Latin arcus, meaning bow. Historically, archery has been used for hunting and combat. In modern times, it is mainly a competitive sport and recreational activity. A person who practices archery is typically called an archer, bowman, or toxophilite.

किसी निश्चित लक्ष्य पर धनुष की सहायता से बाण चलाने की कला को धनुर्विद्या (Archery) कहते हैं। विधिवत् युद्ध का यह सबसे प्राचीन तरीका माना जाता है। धनुर्विद्या का जन्मस्थान अनुमान का विषय है, लेकिन ऐतिहासिक सूत्रों से सिद्ध होता है कि इसका प्रयोग पूर्व देशों में बहुत प्राचीन काल में होता था। संभवत: भारत से ही यह विद्या ईरान होते हुए यूनान और अरब देशों में पहुँची थी।
