Ethnography is a branch of anthropology and the systematic study of individual cultures. Ethnography explores cultural phenomena from the point of view of the subject of the study. Ethnography is also a type of social research that involves examining the behavior of the participants in a given social situation and understanding the group members' own interpretation of such behavior.

नृवंशविज्ञान एक गुणात्मक अनुसंधान विधि है जिसका प्रयोग अक्सर सामाजिक विज्ञान में विशेष रूप से मानवशास्त्र और समाजशास्त्र में किया जाता है। इसके अंतर्गत अक्सर मानव समाज/संस्कृतियों पर अनुभवजन्य आँकड़े जुटाने का कार्य किया जाता है। आँकड़ा संग्रह का कार्य अक्सर प्रतिभागी अवलोकन, साक्षात्कार, प्रश्नावली, आदि के माध्यम से किया जाता है। नृवंशविज्ञान लेखन के माध्यम से, अध्ययनित नृवंशी अर्थात् व्यक्ति की प्रकृति का वर्णन करता है।
