Islamabad is the capital city of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan. It is the country's ninth-most populous city with a population of over 1.2 million people and is federally administered by the Pakistani government as part of the Islamabad Capital Territory. Built as a planned city in the 1960s and established in 1967, it replaced Karachi as Pakistan's official national capital.

इस्लामाबाद पाकिस्तान की राजधानी है। भारत विभाजन के पश्चात पाकिस्तान को एक राजधानी नगर की आवश्यकता थी। ना तो लाहौर और न ही कराची जैसे नगर इस हेतु सही पाए गए अंतः एक नए नगर की स्थापना का निर्णय लिया गया जो पूरी तरह से नियोजित हो। इस कार्य हेतु फ़्रांसीसी नगर नियोजक तथा वास्तुकार ली कार्बूजियर की सेवा ली गई। इन्हीं महोदय ने भारत में चंडीगढ़ की स्थापना की योजना बनाई थी। इस कारण ये दोनों नगर देखने में एक जैसे लगते हैं।
