In arithmetic, a quotient is a quantity produced by the division of two numbers. The quotient has widespread use throughout mathematics. It has two definitions: either the integer part of a division, or as a fraction or a ratio. For example, when dividing 20 by 3, the quotient is 6 in the first sense, and in the second sense.
भागफल वह संख्या है, जो किसी संख्या को किसी अन्य संख्या से भाग करने पर प्राप्त होती है। उदाहरण के लिए दायें ओर के चित्र अनुसार 20 फल दिये गए हैं। यदि उन सभी फलों को चार लोगों में बराबर बाँटना है तो उसके लिए हमें 20 का 4 से भाग करना होगा। जिसके परिणाम स्वरूप हर व्यक्ति को 5 फल देकर हम 20 फलों को सभी चार लोगों में बराबर बाँट सकते हैं।
