In electrical engineering, a transformer is a passive component that transfers electrical energy from one electrical circuit to another circuit, or multiple circuits. A varying current in any coil of the transformer produces a varying magnetic flux in the transformer's core, which induces a varying electromotive force (EMF) across any other coils wound around the same core. Electrical energy can be transferred between separate coils without a metallic (conductive) connection between the two circuits. Faraday's law of induction, discovered in 1831, describes the induced voltage effect in any coil due to a changing magnetic flux encircled by the coil.

ट्राँसफार्मर या परिणामित्र एक वैद्युत मशीन है जिसमें कोई चलने या घूमने वाला अवयव नहीं होता। विद्युत उपकरणों में सम्भवतः ट्राँसफार्मर सर्वाधिक व्यापक रूप से प्रयुक्त विद्युत साषित्र (अप्लाएन्स) है। यह किसी एक विद्युत परिपथ (circuit) से अन्य परिपथ में विद्युत प्रेरण द्वारा धारा की आवर्ती को बिना बदले विद्युत उर्जा स्थान्तरित करता है। ट्राँसफार्मर प्रत्यावर्ती धारा(AC)के साथ कार्य कर सकता है, एकदिश धारा के साथ नहीं। ट्राँसफार्मर एक-फेजी, तीन-फेजी या बहु-फेजी हो सकते है। यह सभी विद्युत मशीनों में सर्वाधिक दक्ष (एफिसिएंट) मशीन है। आधुनिक युग में परिणामित्र वैद्युत् तथा इलेक्ट्रॉनी उद्योगों का अभिन्न अंग बन गया है।
