व्यापार के सन्दर्भ में अभिकर्ता (एजेंट) वह व्यक्ति है जो किसी अन्य व्यक्ति की ओर से व्यापार संबंधी कार्य करे। अधिकांशत: तो उसका कार्य माल के क्रय, विक्रय अथवा वितरण में अपने प्रधान की सहायता करना है और प्राय: उसका पारिश्रमिक वर्तन (कमीशन) के रूप में होता है। कार्यानुसार अभिकर्ता विभिन्न नामों से पुकारे जाते हैं। क्रेता और विक्रेता के बीच सौदा तय करानेवाला अभिकर्ता दलाल कहलाता है। अपने प्रधान की ओर से माल का क्रय अथवा विक्रय करनेवाले अभिकर्ता को कमीशन एजेंट कहते हैं क्योंकि माल के मूल्य पर कमीशन ही उसका पारिश्रमिक होता है। कभी-कभी निर्माता अपने माल का विक्रय बढ़ाने के लिए विभिझ क्षेत्रों में अभिकर्ता नियुक्त कर देते हैं जो अपने प्रधान के माल के विक्रय की समुचित व्यवस्था करके उसे विक्रय संबंधी समस्याओं से मुक्त कर देते हैं। इनके अतिरिक्त कुछ अभिकर्ताओं का कार्य नीलामी द्वारा माल का विक्रय करना है।
