रसायनशास्त्र में अवशोषण (absorption) वह भौतिक या रसायनिक प्रक्रिया होती है जिसमें कोई गैस या द्रव (लिक्विड) के अणु या परमाणु किसी अन्य द्रव या ठोस पदार्थ में समा जाते हैं। यह अधिशोषण (adsorption) से बिलकुल अलग प्रक्रिया है, क्योंकि जहाँ अधिशोषण में केवल सोखने वाली वस्तु की सतह ही द्रव या गैस को सोखती है वहाँ अवशोषण में सोखा गया द्रव या गैस सोखने वाली वस्तु के पूरे या बड़े भाग में फैलकर समा जाता है। द्रवों और गैसों को अवशोषित करने वाले पदार्थ को 'अवशोषक' कहा जाता है।
