चंपा NOUN
- एक पुरी जो प्राचीन काल में अंग देश की राजधानी थी । यह वर्तमान भागलपुर के आस पास कहीं रही होगी । कर्ण यहीं का राजा था ।
- मझोले कद का एक पेड । विशेष— इसमें हलके पीले रंग के फूल लगते हैं । इन फूलों में बडी तीव्र सुगंध होती है । चंपा दो प्रकार का होता है । एक साधारण चंपा, दूसरा कटहलिया । कटहलिया चंपा के फुल की महक पके कटहल से मिलती हुई होती है । ऐसा प्रसिद्ध है कि चंपा के फूल पर भौंरे नहीं बैठते । जंगलों में चंपे के जो पेड होते हैं, वे बहुत ऊँचे और बडे होते हैं । इसकी लकडी पीली, चमकीली और मुलायम, पर बहुत मजबूत होती है और नाव, टेबुल, कुरसी आदि बनाने और इमारत के काम में आती है । हिमालय की तराई, नैपाल, बंगाल, आसाम तथा दक्षिण भारत के जंगलों में यह अधिकता से पाया जाता है । चित्रकूट में इसकी लकडी की मालाएँ बनती हैं ।

- घोडे की एक जाति ।
- एक प्रकार का कुसियार या रेशम का कीडा जिसके रेशम का व्यवहार पहले आसाम में बहुत होता था ।
- एक प्रकार का बहुत बडा सदाबहार पेड । विशेष— यह वृक्ष दक्षिण भारत में अधिकता से पाया जाता है । इसकी लकडी कुछ पीलापन लिए बहुत मजबूत होती है और इमारत के काम के अतिरिक्त गाडी, पालकी, नाव आदि बनाने के काम में भी आती है । इसे 'सुल्ताना चंपा' भी कहते हैं ।

The genus included about 50 species of evergreen trees and shrubs, native to tropical and subtropical south and southeast Asia (Indomalaya), including southern China. Today it is regarded as a synonym and section of the genus Magnolia.
