तितली NOUN

1. एक उड़नेवाला सुंदर कीड़ा या फतिंगा जो प्रायः बगीचों मे फूलों के पराग और रस आदि पर निर्वाह करता है । विशेष—तितली के छह पैर होते है और मुँह से बाल के ऐसी दो सूंड़ियाँ निकली होती है जिनसे यह फूलों का रस चूसती है । दोनों ओर दो दो के हिसाब से चार बड़े पंख होने है । भिन्न भिन्न तितलियों के पंख भिन्न भिन्न रंग के होते है और किसी किसी में बहुत सुंदर बुटियाँ रहती हैं । पंख के अतिरिक्त इसका और शरीर इतना सूक्ष्म या पतला होता है कि दूर से दिखाई नहीं देता । गुबरेले, रेशम के कीड़े आदि फतिंगों के समान तितली के शरीर का भी रूपांतर होता है । अंडे से निकलने के ऊपरांत यह कुछ दिनों तक गाँठकर ढोले या सूँड़े के रूप में रहती है । ऐसे ढोले प्रायः पौधों की पत्तियों पर चिपके हुए मिलते हैं । इन ढोलों का मुँह कुतरने योग्य होता है और यै पौधों को कभी कभी बड़ी हानि पहुँचाते हैं । छह असली पैरों के अतिरिक्त इन्हें कई ओर पैर होते हैं । ये ही ढोले रूपांतरित होते होते तितली के रूप में हो जाते हैं और उड़ने लगते हैं ।
2. एक घास जो गेहूँ आदि के खेतों में उगती है । विशेष—इसका पौधा हाथ सवा हाथ तक का होता है । पत्तियाँ पतली पतली होती हैं । इसकी पत्तियाँ और बीज दवा के काम में आते हैं ।

Description

तितली कीट वर्ग का सामान्य रूप से हर जगह पाया जानेवाला प्राणी है। यह बहुत सुन्दर तथा आकर्षक होती है। दिन के समय जब यह एक फूल से दूसरे फूल पर उड़ती है और मधुपान करती है तब इसके रंग-बिरंगे पंख बाहर दिखाई पड़ते हैं। इसके शरीर के मुख्य तीन भाग हैं सिर, वक्ष तथा उदर। इनके दो जोड़ी पंख तथा तीन जोड़ी सन्धियुक्त पैर होते हैं अतः यह एक कीट है। इसके सिर पर एक जोड़ी संयुक्त आँख होती हैं तथा मुँह में घड़ी के स्प्रिंग की तरह 'प्रोवोसिस' नामक खोखली लम्बी सूँड़नुमा जीभ होती है जिससे यह फूलों का रस (नेक्टर) चूसती है। ये एन्टिना की मदद से किसी वस्तु एवं उसकी गंध का पता लगाती है।
