- दृष्टि का वह कल्पित प्रभाव जो किसी सुंदर मनुष्य या अच्छे पदार्थ आदि पर पड़कर उसे खराब कर देनेवाला माना जाता है । विशेष—प्राचीन काल में लोगों का विश्वास था और अब भी बहुत से लोगों का विश्वास है कि किसी किसी मनुष्य की दृष्टि में ऐसा प्रभाव होता है कि जिसपर उसकी दृष्टि पड़ती है उसमें कोई न कोई दोष या खराबी पैदा हो जाती है । यदि ऐसी दृष्टि किसी खाद्य पदार्थ पर पड़े तो वह खानेवाले को नहीं पचता और भविष्य में उस पदार्थ पर से खानेवाले ती रुचि भी हट जाती है । यह भी माना जाता है कि यदि किसी सुंदर बालक पर ऐसी दृष्टि पड़े तो वह बीमार हो जाता है । अच्छे पदार्थों आदि के संबंध में माना जाता है कि यदि उनपर ऐसी दृष्टि पड़े तो उनमें कोई न कोई दोष या विकार उत्पन्न हो जाता है । किसी विशिष्ट अवसर पर केवल किसी विशिष्ट मनुष्य की दृष्टि में ही नहीं बल्कि प्रत्येक मनुष्य की दृष्टि ऐसा प्रभाव माना जाता है ।
