- वह काम जो राज्य के कर्मचारी आदि अथवा गाँव के जमीदार आदि छोटी जाति के और गरीब आदमियों से बलपूर्वक लेते हैं ओर जिसके बदले में उनकी बहुत ही कम पुरस्कार मिलता है अथवा कुछ भी पुरस्कार नहीं मिलता । बिना मजदूरी का जबरदस्ती लिया हुआ काम ।
- वह काम जो चित्त लगाकर न किया जाय । वह काम जो बेमन से किया जाय ।
Description
मूल्य चुकाए बिना श्रम कराने की प्रथा को बेगार कहते हैं। इसमें श्रमिकों की इच्छा के बिना काम लिया जाता है। सामंती, साम्राज्यवादी और अफ़सरशाही प्रायः समाज के कमज़ोर लोगों से बेगार करवाती है। ब्रिटिशकालीन भारत में तो यह आम बात थी। किंतु स्वतंत्र भारत में भी इस तरह की घटनाओं का सर्वथा अभाव नहीं है। यह प्रथा अंगरेजों के खिलाफ आम जनता के असंतोष की एक बड़ी वजह थी।
