मनोविकार NOUN
- मन की वह अवस्था जिसमें किसी प्रकार का सुखद या दुःखद भाव, विचार या विकार उत्पन्न होता है । जैसे, राग, द्वेष, क्रोध, दया आदि चित्तवृत्तियाँ । चित्त का विकार । विशेष— मनोविकार किसी प्रकार के भाव या विचार के कारण होता है और उसके साथ मन का लक्ष्य किसी पदार्थ या बात की ओर होता है । जैसे, किसी को दुखी देखकर दया अथवा अत्याचारी का अत्याचार देखकर क्रोध का उत्पन्न होना । जिस समय कोई मनोविकार उत्पन्न होता है, उस समय कुछ शारीरिक विक्रिया्र्ए भी होता है; रोमांच, स्वेद, कंप आदि पर ये विक्रियाएँ साधारणतः इतनी सूक्ष्म होती हैं कि दूसरों का दिखाई नहीं देतीं । हाँ, यदि मनोविकार बहुत तीव्र रुप में हो, तो उसके कारण होनेवाली 'शारीरिक विक्रिवाएँ' अवश्य ही बहुत स्पष्ट होती है और बहुवा मनुष्य की आकृति से ही उसके मनोविकारों का स्वरुप प्रकट हो आता है ।

मनोविकार किसी व्यक्ति के मानसिक स्वास्थ्य की वह स्थिति है जिसे किसी स्वस्थ व्यक्ति से तुलना करने पर 'सामान्य' नहीं कहा जाता। स्वस्थ व्यक्तियों की तुलना में मनोरोगों से ग्रस्त व्यक्तियों का व्यवहार असामान्य अथवा दुरनुकूली निर्धारित किया जाता है और जिसमें महत्वपूर्ण व्यथा अथवा असमर्थता अन्तर्ग्रस्त होती है। इन्हें मनोरोग, मानसिक रोग, मानसिक बीमारी अथवा मानसिक विकार भी कहते हैं।

A mental disorder is also characterized by a clinically significant disturbance in an individual's cognition, emotional regulation, or behavior, often in a social context. Such disturbances may occur as single episodes, may be persistent, or may be relapsing–remitting. There are many different types of mental disorders, with signs and symptoms that vary widely between specific disorders. A mental disorder is one aspect of mental health.
