  1. त्रिपुरमाली नामक फुल । वटपत्रा । बेला ।
  2. बिष्णु के एक अवतार का नाम । विशेष—भागवत के अनुसार विष्णु ने यह अवतार उस समय लिया था, जब देवताओं और दैत्यों ने मिलकर रत्नों को निका- लने के लिये समुद्र मथा था और अमृतके निकलने पर दोनों उसके लिये परस्पर झगड़ रहे थे । उस समय भगवान् ने मोहिनी अवतार धारण किया था और उन्हें देखते ही असुर मोहित होकर बोले थे कि अच्छा आओ, हम दोनों दलों के लोग बैठ जाँय और मोहिनी अपने हाथ से हम लोगों को अमृत बाँट दे । दोनों दलों के लोग पंक्ति बाँधकर बैठ गए और मोहिनी रुप विष्णु ने अमृत बाँटने के बहाने से देवताओं को अमृत और असुरों को सुरा पिला दी ।

Description

मोहिनी हिन्दू भगवान विष्णु का एकमात्र स्त्री अवतार है। इसमें उन्हें ऐसे स्त्री रूप में दिखाया गया है जो सभी को मोहित कर ले। उसके मोह में वशीभूत होकर कोई भी सब भूल जाता है, इस अवतार का उल्लेख महाभारत में भी आता है। समुद्र मंथन के समय जब देवताओं व असुरों को सागर से अमृत मिल चुका था, तब देवताओं को यह डर था कि असुर कहीं अमृत पीकर अमर न हो जायें। तब वे भगवान विष्णु के पास गये व प्रार्थना की कि ऐसा होने से रोकें। तब भगवान विष्णु ने मोहिनी अवतार लेकर अमृत देवताओं को पिलाया व असुरों को मोहित कर अमर होने से रोका।
