लज्जा या संकोच किसी व्यक्ति की वह भावना है जिसके कारण उसे दूसरे व्यतियों के साथ बैठने, बातचीत करने आदि में परेशानी होती है। यह भावना प्रायः नयी जगहों पर या अपरिचित लोगों के बीच में जाने पर अधिक प्रबल होती है। संकोच की भावना कम आत्मविश्वास वाले व्यक्तियों का विशिष्ट गुण है। जब लज्जा की भावना बहुत प्रबल हो तो उसे सामाजिक दुश्चिन्ता कहते हैं।
