A pilgrimage is a journey, often into an unknown or foreign place, where a person goes in search of new or expanded meaning about their self, others, nature, or a higher good through the experience. It can lead to a personal transformation, after which the pilgrim returns to their daily life.

तीर्थ धार्मिक और आध्यात्मिक महत्त्व वाले स्थानों को कहते हैं जहाँ जाने के लिए लोग लम्बी और अकसर कष्टदायक यात्राएँ करते हैं। इन यात्राओं को तीर्थयात्रा (pilgrimage) कहते हैं। हिन्दू धर्म के तीर्थ प्रायः देवताओं के निवास-स्थान महत्त्वपूर्ण तीर्थ हैं और इसके अतिरिक्त कई तीर्थ महत्त्वपूर्ण ऐतिहासिक व्यक्तियों के जीवन से भी सम्बन्धित हो सकते हैं। उदाहरण स्वरूप, मास्को में लेनिन की समाधि साम्यवादियों के लिए एक तीर्थ है।
