In biology, a spore is a unit of sexual or asexual reproduction that may be adapted for dispersal and for survival, often for extended periods of time, in unfavourable conditions. Spores form part of the life cycles of many plants, algae, fungi and protozoa. They were thought to have appeared as early as the mid-late Ordovician period as an adaptation of early land plants.

जीवविज्ञान में बीजाणु (spore) लैंगिक व अलैंगिक प्रजनन की एक संरचना है जिसे कोई जीव या जीव जाति स्वयं को फैलाने या विषम परिस्थितियों में दीर्घकाल तक जीवित रहने के लिये बनाती है। बीजाणु बहुत से पौधों, शैवाल (ऐल्गी), कवक (फ़ंगस) और प्रोटोज़ोआ के जीवनचक्र का महत्वपूर्ण भाग होता है। बैक्टीरिया (जीवाणु) के भी बीजाणु बनते हैं, जो अंतर्बीजाणु (endospore) कहलाते हैं, जो किसी प्रजनन चक्र का भाग नहीं होते, बल्कि कठिन परिस्थितिओं में बैक्टीरिया को जीवित रखने के लिए बना एक निष्क्रय सिकुड़ा ढांचा होता है। कुछ परजीवी अन्य जीवों के शरीरों में अलग-अलग प्रकार से बीजाणु डाल देते हैं, जो उन जीवों के भीतर विकसित होते हैं।
