अर्थशास्त्र के सन्दर्भ में, लोच (elasticity) शब्द का उपयोग किसी आर्थिक चर को बदलने पर किसी दूसरे चर में हुए परिवर्तन की मात्रा बताने के लिये किया जाता है। यदि एक चर के परिवर्तन से दूसरा चर अधिक परिवर्तित होता है तो कहते हैं कि लोच अधिक है। उदाहरण के लिये, यदि किसी उत्पाद के मूल्य में कमी की जाय तो उसकी बिक्री कितनी बढ़ेगी, इसके लिये 'लोच' शब्द का प्रयोग किया जाता है। कीमत बढ़ने पर गिफीन वस्तु की मांग बढ़ती हैं व कम होनें पर कुछ घटती हैं । जैसें - यदि शुद्ध घी की कीमत बढ़ जाएं व आय परिवर्तित ना हों तो उपभोक्ता वनस्पति की ओर प्रतिस्थापन कर देता हैं व तत्पश्चात यदि आय में वृद्धि होती हैं तो वह वनस्पति घी में कुछ कमी कर के कुछ मात्रा शुद्ध घी की लेता हैं अत: तब वनस्पति घी एक तरह से गिफीन वस्तु होती हैं ।

In economics, elasticity measures the responsiveness of one economic variable to a change in another. If the price elasticity of the demand of something is -2, a 10% increase in price causes the quantity demanded to fall by 20%. Elasticity in economics provides an understanding of changes in the behavior of the buyers and sellers with price changes. There are two types of elasticity for demand and supply, one is inelastic demand and supply and the other one is elastic demand and supply.
