A rope is a group of yarns, plies, fibres, or strands that are twisted or braided together into a larger and stronger form. Ropes have tensile strength and so can be used for dragging and lifting. Rope is thicker and stronger than similarly constructed cord, string, and twine.

கயிறு (Rope) என்பது புளிச்சை, சணல், எருக்கு, தென்னை முதலான நார்களைத் திரித்துச் செய்யப்படுகின்றது. பட்டு, பருத்தி நூல்களால் திரிக்கப்பட்ட கயிறுகளும் உண்டு. பொருள்களைக் கட்டக் கயிறு பயன்படும். இது ஒரு குடிசைத் தொழில். இப்பொழுது நவீன இயந்திரங்களை பயன்படுத்தியும் கயிறு திரிக்கப்படுகிறது. மாந்தரின் கூந்தலால் திரிக்கப்பட்ட தலைமுடிக் கயிறுகளும் சங்ககாலத்தில் பயன்படுத்தப்பட்டன.
