अ देवनागरी लिपि का पहला वर्ण तथा संस्कृत, हिंदी , मराठी, नेपाली आदि भाषाओं की वर्णमाला का पहला अक्षर एवं ध्वनि है। यह एक स्वर है। यह कंठ्य वर्ण है।। इसका उच्चारण स्थान कंठ है। इसकी ध्वनि को पाश्चात्य भाषाविज्ञान में श्वा कहा जाता है।
