In mechanical or automotive engineering, a freewheel or overrunning clutch is a device in a transmission that disengages the driveshaft from the driven shaft when the driven shaft rotates faster than the driveshaft. An overdrive is sometimes mistakenly called a freewheel, but is otherwise unrelated.

यांत्रिक प्रौद्योगिकी एवं आटोमोबाइल इंजीनियरिंग में मुक्तचक्र या फ्रीह्वील (Freewheel) या "ओवररनिंग क्लच" एक युक्ति है जो चालक शाफ्ट (driveshaft) को चालित-शाफ्ट से उस दशा में अलग कर देता है जब चालित शाफ्ट, चालक शाफ्ट की तुलना में अधिक तेजी से घूम रहा हो। कभी-कभी "ओवरड्राइव मेकेनिज्म" को गलती से मुक्तचक्र कह दिया जाता है जबकि यह बिलकुल ही अलग चीज है।
