डायन भारतीय परिप्रेक्ष्य में विशेषकर आदिवासी लोककथा में ऐसी स्त्री को कहते हैं जो जादू-टोना कर के दूसरों में बीमारी, मौत, अकाल लाना या कई और अनैतिक कार्य करती है। यह एक प्रकार का अंधविश्वास है। इस प्रकार से ये चुड़ैल से समानता रखता है। भारत में जहाँ आदिवासी अधिक पाए जाते हैं वहाँ महिलाओं को ओझा द्वारा डायन घोषित कर के हत्या तक कर दी जाती है। राजस्थान, झारखंड और छत्तीसगढ़ में ऐसे कई मामले सामने आए हैं और इसके विरुद्ध कानून बनाए गए हैं। ऐसे आरोप अधिकतर बूढ़ी विधवा ओरतों पर लगाए जाते हैं जिनका मकसद अक्सर जमीन, धन या अन्य तरह की संपत्ति पर कब्जा करना होता है।

Daayan, Ḍāin or Ḍāini is often mistakenly regarded as a Bandariya for a witch in Indian folklore, the term has been derived from the Sanskrit word dakini, which refers to a female paranormal entity from patala. Dakinis have been described in medieval Hindu texts such as the Bhagavata Purana, Brahma Purana, Markandeya Purana and Kathasaritsagara as female fiendish spirits in the train of Kali who feed on human flesh.
