নদী সাধারণত মিষ্টি জলের একটি প্রাকৃতিক জলধারা যা ঝরনাধারা, বরফগলিত স্রোতধারা প্রাকৃতিক পরিবর্তনের মাধ্যমে সৃষ্ট নদী পথ হয়ে প্রবাহ শেষে সাগর, মহাসাগর, হ্রদ বা অন্য কোন নদী বা জলাশয়ে পতিত হয় । মাঝে মাঝে অন্য কোন জলের উৎসের কাছে পৌঁছানোর আগেই নদী সম্পূর্ণ শুকিয়ে যেতে পারে। নদীকে তার গঠন অনুযায়ী শাখানদী, উপনদী, প্রধান নদী, নদ ইত্যাদি নামে অভিহিত করা যায়। আবার ভৌগোলিক অঞ্চলভেদে ছোট নদীকে বিভিন্ন নামে ডাকা হয়।সাধারণত নদীর নামকরণ করা হয়েছে মেয়েদের নামে। M.Moriswa এর মতে নদী হল খালের মধ‍্য দিয়ে প্রবাহিত জলধারা।-River is a canal flow.
