A magnet is a material or object that produces a magnetic field. This magnetic field is invisible but is responsible for the most notable property of a magnet: a force that pulls on other ferromagnetic materials, such as iron, steel, nickel, cobalt, etc. and attracts or repels other magnets.

চুম্বক হলো এমন বস্তু যা বিশেষ আকর্ষণ ক্ষমতাসম্পন্ন। চুম্বকের এই ক্ষমতাকে চুম্বকত্ব বলা হয়। চুম্বকের চুম্বকত্বের কারণে চৌম্বক ক্ষেত্র তৈরি করে। এই চৌম্বকক্ষেত্র অদৃশ্য, কিন্তু এর মাধ্যমেই চুম্বকের প্রায় সব ধর্ম প্রকাশ পায়; এটি একটি বল যা তার চারপাশের ফেরোচৌম্বক পদার্থকে আকর্ষণ করে এবং অন্য চুম্বককে আকর্ষণ বা বিকর্ষণ করে। প্রথম স্থায়ী চুম্বক তৈরি করা হয় ইস্পাত দিয়ে।
