Manatees are large, fully aquatic, mostly herbivorous marine mammals sometimes known as sea cows. There are three accepted living species of Trichechidae, representing three of the four living species in the order Sirenia: the Amazonian manatee, the West Indian manatee, and the West African manatee. They measure up to 4.0 metres long, weigh as much as 590 kilograms (1,300 lb), and have paddle-like tails.

मैनाटी एक मध्यम आकार का शाकाहारी समुद्री स्तनधारी प्राणी है जो विश्व के कई भागों में समुद्री तटीय क्षेत्रों के जल में पाया जाता है। यह साइरेनिया जीववैज्ञानिक गण का सदस्य है, जिसमें चार जीववैज्ञानिक जातियाँ पाई जाती हैं। इन चार में से तीन मैनाटी की जातियाँ हैं, जबकि चौथी डूगोंग की इकलौती जाति है। मैनाटी की तीनों जातियाँ ट्रिकेकिडाए (Trichechidae) जीववैज्ञानिक कुल के अंतर्गत ट्रिकेकुस (Trichechus) जीववैज्ञानिक वंश में आती हैं।
