വലിയ തലയും അതിനെ തൊട്ട് പിടിയുമുള്ള ലളിതമായ ഒരു ആയുധമാണ് ഗദ. വളരെ ശക്തമായി അടിക്കുവാൻ ഇതുകൊണ്ട് സാധിക്കും. മരം കൊണ്ടുള്ളതോ ലോഹം കൊണ്ടുള്ളതോ ആയ പിടിയും കല്ല്, ചെമ്പ്, വെങ്കലം, ഇരുമ്പ്, ഉരുക്ക് എന്നിവയിലേതെങ്കിലും കൊണ്ടുള്ള തല എന്നിവയാണ് ഒരു ഗദയുടെ ഭാഗങ്ങൾ. ഇന്ത്യയിലെ പുരാണകഥാപാത്രങ്ങളായ ഹനുമാൻ, ഭീമൻ മഹാവിഷ്ണു തുടങ്ങിയവരുടെ പ്രധാനായുധമാണ് ഗദ. മഹാവിഷ്ണുവിന്റെ ഗദയുടെ പേരാണ് യൗമോദകി. ഭാരതത്തിൽ ഗദായുദ്ധം എന്നൊരു യുദ്ധയിനം തന്നെയുണ്ടായിരുന്നു.
