Description
Water is an inorganic compound with the chemical formula H2O. It is a transparent, tasteless, odorless, and nearly colorless chemical substance, and it is the main constituent of Earth's hydrosphere and the fluids of all known living organisms. It is vital for all known forms of life, despite not providing food energy or organic micronutrients. Its chemical formula, H2O, indicates that each of its molecules contains one oxygen and two hydrogen atoms, connected by covalent bonds. The hydrogen atoms are attached to the oxygen atom at an angle of 104.45°. In liquid form, H2O is also called "Water" at standard temperature and pressure.
पाणी (H2O) हा हायड्रोजन व ऑक्सिजन या अणूंपासून बनलेला द्रव पदार्थ आहे. हायड्रोजन वायूचे दोन अणू आणि प्राणवायूचा (ऑक्सिजन) एक अणू यांचा संयोग होऊन पाण्याचा एक रेणू तयार होतो. सामान्य तापमानाला पाणी द्रव अवस्थेत असते. या द्रवरूपात ते निसर्गात विपुल प्रमाणात आढळते. पाणी रंगहीन, गंधहीन असून त्याला स्वतःची चव नसते. ते प्राणी-वनस्पतींच्या सर्व जैविक प्रक्रियेत आवश्यक असते. त्यांच्या घन रूपाला बर्फ व वायुरूपाला वाफ म्हणतात. पाणी एका रूपातून दुसऱ्या रूपात म्हणजे द्रव रूपातून वायुरूपात म्हणजे वाफेत रूपांतरित होते. तसेच बर्फाला उष्णता दिली की त्याचे पाणी होते आणि पाणी फार फार थंड केले की त्याचा बर्फ बनतो. अनेक पदार्थ पाण्यात विरघळतात व म्हणून पाण्याला वैश्विक द्रावक (Universal solvent) असे म्हणतात. पाणी एका जागी स्थिर झाल्यास गुरुत्वाकर्षणामुळे त्यातले पाण्याहून जड असलेले कण तळाशी साठत जातात आणि हलके कण वर येऊन तरंगतात. या दोन्हींच्या मधले पाणी स्वच्छ होत जाते. शहरांच्या पाणीपुरवठा केंद्रांमध्ये या गुणधर्माचा उपयोग करून पाणी स्वच्छ केले जाते. आपल्या शरीरात ६० ते ७०% पाणी असते. निरोगी आरोग्यासाठी ते तितके असणे चांगले असते, म्हणूनच पाण्याला जीवन म्हणतात. पाणी हे जीवन आहे म्हणून पाणी वाचवणे व त्याचा योग्य वापर करणे आवश्यक आहे. पाण्यामध्ये ऑक्सिजन विरघळतो. मासे पाण्यातील ऑक्सिजन घेऊन जिवंत राहतात. पाण्याच्या एका विशिष्ट गुणधर्मामुळे सृष्टीमध्ये पाण्याचे स्थान एकमेवाद्वितीय आहे. पाण्याचे तापमान कमी केले असता ०° सेल्सियस तापमानाला ते घनरूप घेऊ लागते. तापमान अजून कमी केल्यास ४° सेल्सियस तापमानापर्यंत ते आकुंचन पावते. परंतु त्यापेक्षा कमी तापमान झाल्यास पाणी प्रसरण पावू लागते आणि त्याची घनता कमी होते आणि त्याबरोबरच परिणामी ४° सेल्सियसपेक्षा अधिक तापमान असलेल्या पाण्यावर तरंगू लागते. याला पाण्याची अपवादात्मक प्रसरणशीलता म्हणतात. यामुळे बर्फाळ प्रदेशातील जलचर बर्फाखालील पाण्यात जगत असतात. अणू बॉंब बनवण्यासाठी लागणारे जड पाणी हा पाण्याचा दुसरा प्रकार मानला जातो. पाणी ही माणसाची मुलभूत गरज आहे.
