कारतूस किसी बंदूक़, पिस्तौल या अन्य हथियार में डाली जाने वाली ऐसी वास्तु को कहते हैं जिसमें किसी धातु, प्लास्टिक या काग़ज़ के खोल में गोली और उसे धमाके के साथ तेज़ गति पर चला देने वाला पदार्थ हो। कारतूस का आकार विशेष रूप से हथियार की नली में डलने के लिए ठीक बनाया जाता है। हथियार चलाने पर ट्रिगर की चोट से चालाक पदार्थ में धमाका होता है जिस से वह तेज़ी से गोली नली से बाहर फेंकता है। ऐसा कारतूस जिसमें गोली न हो 'ब्लैंक' (blank) कहलाया जाता है और चलाये जाने पर बिना गोली छोड़े केवल धमाकेदार आवाज़ ही करता है। साधारण भाषा में कभी-कभी पूरे कारतूस को ही गोली बुला दिया जाता है।

A cartridge, also known as a round, is a type of pre-assembled firearm ammunition packaging a projectile, a propellant substance and an ignition device (primer) within a metallic, paper, or plastic case that is precisely made to fit within the barrel chamber of a breechloading gun, for convenient transportation and handling during shooting. Although in popular usage the term "bullet" is often used to refer to a complete cartridge, the correct usage only refers to the projectile.
