- पड़तालना क्रिया का भाव । किसी वस्तु की सूक्ष्म छानबीन । भली भाँति जाँच या देख भाल । गौर के साथ किसी चीज की जाँच । अन्वीक्षण । अनुसंधान ।
- गाँव अथवा नहर के पटवारी द्बारा खेतों की एक विशेष प्रकार की जाँच । विशेष—यह जाँच खरीफ, रबी और फस्ल जायद नामक तीनों कालों के लिये अलग अलग तीन बार होती है । खेत में कौन सी चीज बोई गई है, किसने बोई है, खेत सींचा गया है या नहीं, सींचा गया है तो कहाँ से जल लाकार सींचा गया है, आदि बातें इस जाँच में लिखी जाती हैं । गाँव का पटवारी प्रत्येक पड़ताल के बाद जिंसवार एक नकशा बनाता है । इस नकशे से माल के अधिकारियों को यह मालूम होता है कि इस वर्ष कोन सी चीज कितने बीघे बोई गई है, उसकी क्या अवस्था है और वह कितनी उपजेगी, आदि ।
