बच NOUN
- एक प्रकार का पौधा जो ओषधि के काम में आता हैं । पर्य्या०—उग्रगधा । षड़्ग्रंथा । गोलोमी । शतपर्विका । मगल्या । जटिला । तीक्ष्णा । लोमशा । भद्रा । कांगा । विशेष— यह पौधा काशमीर से ऐ आसाम तक तथा मनीपुर और बर्मा में दो हजार से छह हजार फुट तक ऊँचे पहाड़ों पर पानी के किनारे होता है । इसकी पत्ती सौसन की पत्ती के आकार की पर उससे कुछ बड़ी होती है । इसके फूल नरगिस के फूल की तरह पीले होते हैं । पत्तियों की नाल लंबी होती है । पत्तियों से एक प्रकार का तेल निकाला जाता है जो खुला रहने से उड़ जाता है । इसकी जल लाली लिए सफेद रंग की होती है जिसमें अनेक गाँठें होती हैं । पत्तियाँ खाने में कड़ुवी, चपंरी और गरम होती हैं और उनमें से तेज गंध निकलती है । वैद्यक में इसे वमनकारक, दीपन, मल और मूत्रशोधक और कंठ को हितकर माना है, तथा शूल, शोथ, वातज्वर, कफ, मृगी ओर उन्माद का नाशक लिखा है । यह गठिया में ऊपर से लगाई भी जाती है । भावप्रकाश में बच तीन प्रकार की लिखी गई है— (१) बच, (२) खुरासानी बच और (३) महाभरी बच । खुरासानी बच सफेद होती है । इसे मीठी बच भई कहते हैं । यह मति ओर मेधावर्धक तथा आयुवर्धक होती है । महाभरी को कुलीजन भी कहते हैं । यह कफ और खाँसी को दूर करती है, गले को साफ करती है, रुचि को बढ़ाती तथा मुख को शुद्ध करती है ।
