युद्धपोत एक ऐसा जलयान है। जिसका निर्माण युद्ध करने के लिए किया गया हो। युद्धपोतों का निर्माण आमतौर पर व्यापारिक जलयानों से पूर्णतया भिन्न रूप से होता है। सशस्त्र होने के साथ ही साथ युद्धपोत की रचना उसको होने वाली क्षति को सहने के लिए भी की जाती है, साथ ही वे व्यापारिक जलयानों की तुलना में अधिक तेज तथा आसानी से मुड़ सकने वाले होते हैं। एक व्यापारिक जलयान के विपरीत, एक युद्धपोत आमतौर पर केवल अपने स्वयं के चालक दल के लिए हथियार, गोला बारूद, तथा आपूर्ति को ढोता है । युद्धपोत आमतौर पर नौसेना की सम्पत्ति होते हैं, हालाँकि कभ-कभी कुछ व्यक्तियों अथवा कम्पनियों द्वारा भी इन्हें रखा जाता है।

A warship or combatant ship is a ship that is built and primarily intended for naval warfare. Usually they belong to the armed forces of a nation. As well as being armed, warships are designed to withstand damage and are typically faster and more maneuverable than merchant ships. Unlike a merchant ship, which carries cargo, a warship typically carries only weapons, ammunition and supplies for its crew. Warships usually belong to a navy, though they have also been operated by individuals, cooperatives and corporations.
