ಮರ ಎಂದರೆ ಅತ್ಯಂತ ದೊಡ್ಡ ಸಸ್ಯ. ಕೆಲವು ಮರಗಳು ೩೦೦ ಆಡಿಗಳಿಗಿಂತಲೂ ಎತ್ತರಕ್ಕೆ ಬೆಳೆಯುತ್ತವೆ. ಸಾವಿರ ವರ್ಷಗಳಿಗಿಂತಲೂ ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಕಾಲ ಬಾಳಿದ ಮರಗಳೂ ಇರುವುದು ಕಂಡು ಬಂದಿದೆ. ಅತ್ಯಂತ ದೀರ್ಘಕಾಲ ಬದುಕಿರುವ ಜೀವಿಗಳು ಮರಗಳಿಗೆ ಅಗ್ರ ಸ್ಥಾನ ನೀಡಿದೆ. ಮರಗಳು ೩೭೦ ದಶಲಕ್ಷ ವರ್ಷಗಳಿಂದ ಅಸ್ತಿತ್ವದಲ್ಲಿದೆ ಎಂದು ಎನ್ನಲಾಗಿದೆ. ಎತ್ತರದ ಮರ ಎಂದರೆ, ಹೈಪರಿಯನ್ ಎಂಬ ಕರಾವಳಿಯ ಮಂಜತ್ತಿಮರವು ೧೧೫೬ ಮೀ ಎತ್ತರವಿದೆ.
