Celluloids are a class of materials produced by mixing nitrocellulose and camphor, often with added dyes and other agents. Once much more common for its use as photographic film before the advent of safer methods, celluloid's common present-day uses are for manufacturing table tennis balls, musical instruments, combs, office equipment, fountain pen bodies, and guitar picks.
सेलुलॉइड (Celluloid) रासायनिक यौगिकों के एक वर्ग का व्यापारिक नाम है जो नाइट्रो सेलुलोजस और कपूर का मिश्रण है पर मिश्रण की तरह यह व्यवहार नहीं करता। यह एक रासायनिक यौगिक की तरह व्यवहार करता है। इसके अवयवों को भौतिक साधनों द्वारा पृथक करना सरल नहीं है। सेलुलाइड में कुछ रंजक (dyes) तथा अन्य चीजें भी मिलाई जातीं हैं। प्रायः माना जाता है कि सेलुलाइड प्रथम थर्मोप्लास्टिक था। सबसे पहले इसका निर्माण १८६२ में 'पार्केसाइन' (Parkesine) के रूप में किया गया था। उसके बाद १८६९ में 'जाइलोनाइट' (Xylonite) बनाया गया। १८७० में इसे ही 'सेलुलाइड' के नाम से पंजीकृत किया गया।
