સબમરીન એ પાણીની સપાટી પર તેમ જ ઊંડા પાણીના તળિયે જઈને પણ રસ્તો કાપી શકે તેવું વાહન છે. આ વાહન જહાજના આકારની જ મોટી હવાચુસ્ત પેટી જેવું હોય છે. દરિયાના તળભાગમાં પાણીનું દબાણ અત્યંત વધી જતું હોઈ સબમરીનની સપાટી મજબૂત ધાતુની બનાવવામાં આવે છે. આ વાહન પેટ્રોલ, ડીઝલ જેવાં બળતણથી અથવા અણુશક્તિથી ચલાવવામાં આવે છે.

A submarine is a watercraft capable of independent operation underwater. It differs from a submersible, which has more limited underwater capability. The term is also sometimes used historically or colloquially to refer to remotely operated vehicles and robots, as well as medium-sized or smaller vessels, such as the midget submarine and the wet sub. Submarines are referred to as boats rather than ships irrespective of their size.
