Learn to pronounce these difficult words in English

There are times when you are reading and you stumble upon words that are either not familiar to you or words that are impossible to pronounce. There are so many of them and they are everywhere. To avoid going through a tough time, here is an article where you can learn how to pronounce the words. Also, there are certain tricks and methods you can use to practice these words. Methods like using a dictionary, watching movies to note down the words that are difficult to pronounce or understand, catchy songs, chat shows etc.

Here are some of our favorite words that would help you understand, pronounce and also have fun with!

1. Brewery ( broo - uh - ree )  

A place where beer is made commercially.

2. Defibrillation ( dee - fib - ruh - ley - shun )

These are devices that restore heartbeat by sending an electric pulse or shock to the heart.

3. February ( feb - roo - er - ree )

The second month of the year.

4. Isthmus ( is - muh - s )

A narrow strip of land with sea on either side.

5. Massachusetts ( mas - uh - choo - sits )

A state in New England.

6. Rural ( roor - uh.l )

A countryside or a remote village.

7. Synecdoche ( si - nek - duh - kee )

A figure of speech which represents the whole.

8. Worcestershire ( woo.s - ter - sheer )

A pungent sauce which includes soy, vinegar and garlic.

9. Onomatopoeia ( on - uh - mat - uh - pee - uh )

A formation of a word from a sound associated with what is named. Eg: sizzle.

10. Cavalry ( kav - uh.l - ree )

Soldiers who fight with armored vehicles.

 

There are also some words in the English language which are not used everyday. They can be used for fun or even as tongue twisters.

Floccinaucinihilipilification

Otorhinolaryngological

( oh - toh - rahy - noh - luh - ring - guh - loj - i - kuh - l )

medical practice involving the ear, nose, and throat.

Schadenfreude

( shand - n - froi - duh )

pleasure derived by someone from another person's misfortune.

Sesquipedalian

( ses - kwi - pi - dey - lee - uh - n )

given to or characterized by the use of long words.

 

Try to memorize these words and use them in your daily conversations. So next time you speak English, speak with an unabashed zeal!
