The blackbuck, also known as the Indian antelope, is an antelope native to India and Nepal. It inhabits grassy plains and lightly forested areas with perennial water sources. It stands up to 74 to 84 cm high at the shoulder. Males weigh 20–57 kg (44–126 lb), with an average of 38 kg (84 lb). Females are lighter, weighing 20–33 kg (44–73 lb) or 27 kg (60 lb) on average. Males have 35–75 cm (14–30 in) long corkscrew horns, and females occasionally develop horns, as well. The white fur on the chin and around the eyes is in sharp contrast with the black stripes on the face. Both sexes’ coats feature a two-tone colouration; in males, the majority of the body is dark brown to black, with white circles around the eyes, white ears and tail, and the belly, lower jaw, and inner legs also white. Females and juveniles are yellowish-fawn to tan and display the same white areas, only with more of a beige tone than the males. Females also feature a more pronounced horizontal white side-stripe, starting around the shoulder and ending at the rump. The blackbuck is the sole living member of the genus Antilope and was described by Carl Linnaeus in 1758. Two subspecies are recognized.

कृष्णमृग (Blackbuck) या काला हिरण, जिसे भारतीय ऐंटीलोप भी कहा जाता है, भारतीय उपमहाद्वीप में पाई जाने वाली ऐंटीलोप की एक जीववैज्ञानिक जाति है। यह ऐसे घासभूमियों और हलके वनित क्षेत्रों में मिलता है जहाँ जल सदैव उपलब्ध हो। कंधे पर इसकी ऊँचाई 74 से 84 सेमी होती है। नरों का भार 20–57 किलो और मादाओं का 20–33 किलो होता है। नरों के सिर पर 35–75 सेमी लम्बे सींग होते हैं, हालांकि मादाओं पर भी यह कभी-कभी पाए जा सकते हैं। मुख पर काली धारियाँ होती हैं लेकिन ठोड़ी पर और आँखों के इर्दगिर्द श्वेत रंग होता है। नरों के शरीर पर दो रंग दिखते हैं - धड़ और टांगो का बाहरी भाग काला या गाढ़ा भूरा और छाती, पेट व टांगों का अंदरी भाग श्वेत होता है। मादाएँ और बच्चे पूरे भूरे-पीले रंगों के होते हैं। कृष्णमृग ऐंटीलोप जीववैज्ञानिक वंश की एकमात्र जाति है और इसकी दो ऊपजातियाँ मानी जाती हैं।
