Description
Serology is the scientific study of serum and other body fluids. In practice, the term usually refers to the diagnostic identification of antibodies in the serum. Such antibodies are typically formed in response to an infection, against other foreign proteins, or to one's own proteins. In either case, the procedure is simple.
सीरमविज्ञान (Serology) के अन्तर्गत सीरम एवं अन्य शारीरिक तरल पदार्थों का अध्ययन किया जाता है। व्यवहार में, निदान के उद्देश्य से सीरम में मौजूद प्रतिपिंडों की पहचान को ही प्रायः सीरमविज्ञान कहा जाता है। जब शरीर को किसी सूक्ष्मजीव का कोई संक्रमण होता है, या कोई बाहरी प्रोटीन शरीर में प्रविष्ट कराया जाता है तो शरीर की प्रतिक्रिया-स्वरूप ये प्रतिपिण्ड बनते हैं।
