பல்கலைக்கழகம் (University) என்பது உயர் கல்வியை வழங்கும், ஆய்வை மேற்கொள்ளும் ஒரு நிறுவனம். பல்வேறு துறைகளில் பட்டப்படிப்பையும் பட்டமேற்படிப்பையும் பல்கலைக்கழங்கள் வழங்குகின்றன. இந்தக் கல்வி மருத்துவம், சட்டம், பொறியியல், அறிவியல், கலை உட்பட பல துறைகளில் வேலை செய்வதற்கு அடிப்படை அறிவாக கருதப்படுகிறது. தமிழ்ச் சூழலில் பல்கலைக்கழகம் மேற்குநாட்டினரால் 19-ஆம் நூற்றாண்டில் அறிமுகப்படுத்தப்பட்டது.
