भारतीय धर्मों हिन्दुओं के उपासनास्थल को मन्दिर कहते हैं। यह अराधना और पूजा-अर्चना के लिए निश्चित की हुई जगह या देवस्थान है। यानी जिस जगह किसी आराध्य देव के प्रति ध्यान या चिन्तन किया जाए या वहां मूर्ति इत्यादि रखकर पूजा-अर्चना की जाए उसे मन्दिर कहते हैं। मन्दिर का शाब्दिक अर्थ 'घर' है। वस्तुतः सही शब्द 'देवमन्दिर', 'शिवमन्दिर', 'कालीमन्दिर' आदि हैं।

A Hindu temple, also known as Mandir, Devasthanam, or Koil, is a sacred place where Hindus worship and show their devotion to dieties through worship, sacrifice, and devotion. It is considered the house of the god to whom it is dedicated. The temple's design also represents the concept of recursion and the equivalence of the macrocosm and the microcosm through astronomical numbers and specific alignments related to the location of the temple and the connection between the deity and the worshipper. A temple incorporates all elements of the Hindu cosmos — presenting the good, the evil and the human, as well as the elements of the Hindu sense of cyclic time and the essence of life — symbolically presenting dharma, artha, kama, moksha, and karma.
