पसीना NOUN

  1. शरीर में मिला हुआ जल जो अधिक परिश्रम करने अथवा गरमी लगने पर सारे शरीर से निकलने लगता है । प्रस्वेद । स्वेद । श्रमवारि । विशेष—पसीना केवल स्तनपायी जीवों को होता है । ऐसे जीवों के सारे शरीर में त्वचा के नीचे छोटी छोटी ग्रंथियाँ होती हैं जिनमें से रोमकूपों में से होकर जलकणों के रूप में पसीना निकलता है । रासायनिक विश्लेषण से सिद्ध होता है कि पसीने में प्रायः वे ही पदार्थ होते हैं जो मूत्र में होते हैं । परंतु वे पदार्थ बहुत ही थोड़ी मात्रा में होते हैं । पसीने में मुख्यतः कई प्रकार के क्षार, कुछ चर्बी और कुछ प्रोटीन (शरीरधातु) होती है । ग्रीष्मऋतु में व्यायाम मा अधिक परिश्रम करने पर, शरीर में अधिक गरमी के पहुँचने पर या लज्जा, भय, क्रोध, आदि गरहे आवेगों के समय अथवा अधिक पानी पीने पर बहुत पसीना होता है । इसके अतिरिक्त जब मूत्र कम आता है तब भी पसीना अधिक होता है । औषधों के द्वारा अधिक पसीना लाकर कई रोगों की चिकित्सा भी की जाती है । शरीर स्वस्थ रहने की दशा में जो पसीना आता है, उसका न तो कोई रंग होता है और न उसमें कोई दुर्गंध होती है । परंतु शरीर में किसी भी प्रकार का रोग हो जाने पर उसमें से दुर्गंध निकलने लगती हैं ।

पसीना या स्वेद (perspiration) स्तनधारियों की त्वचा में स्थित ग्रंथियों से निकलने वाला एक तरल पदार्थ है, जिसमें पानी मुख्य रूप से शामिल हैं और साथ ही विभिन्न क्लोराइड 2-मेथिलफिनोल (ओ-cresol), 4 मेथिलफिनोल, तथा यूरिया की थोडी सी मात्रा होती है। मनुष्यों में, मुख्य रूप से पसीना तापमान नियंत्रक का कार्य करता है।
