बर्फ NOUN
- हवा में मिली हुई भाप के अत्यंत सूक्ष्म अणुओं की तह जो वातावरण की ठंढक के कारण आकाश में बनती और भारी होने के कारण जमीन पर गिरती है । पाला । हिम । तुषार । विशेष—गिरते समय यह प्रायः रुई की तरह मुलायम होती है और जमीन पर गिरकर अधिक ठंढक के कारण जम जाती है । जमने से पहले यदि चाहें तो इसे एकत्र करके ठोस गोले आदि के रूप में भी बना सकते हैं । जमने पर इसका रंग बिलकुल सफेद हो जाता है । ऊँचे पहाड़ों आदि पर प्रायः सरदी के दिनों में यह अघिकता से गिरती है और जमीन पर इसकी छोटी मीटी तहे जम जाती हैं जिन्हें पीछे से फावड़े आदि से खोदकर हटाना पड़ता है ।
- मशानों आदि की सहायता अथवा और कृत्रिम उपायों से ठढक पहुँचाकर जमाया हुआ पानी जो साधारणतः बाजारों में बिकता है और जिससे गर्मी के दिनों में पीने के लिये जल आदि ठंढा करते है ।
