भाप NOUN

1. पानी के बहुत छोटे छोटे कण जो उसके खौलने की दशा में ऊपर को उठते दिखाई पड़ते हैं और ठढक पाकर कुहरै आदि का रूप धारण करते है । वाष्प ।
2. भौतिक शास्त्रानुसार घनीभूत या द्रवीभूत पदार्थों की वह अवस्था जो उनके पर्याप्त ताप पाने पर प्राप्त होती है । विशेष— ताप के कारण ही घनीभूत या ठोस पदार्थ द्रव होता तथा द्रव पदार्थ भाव का रूप धारण करता है । यौं तो भाप और वायुभूत या अतिवाष्प (गैस) एक ही प्रकार के होते हैं । पर भाव सामान्य सर्दी और दबाव पाकर द्रव तथा ठोस हो जाती है और प्रायः वे पदार्थ जिनकी वह भाप है, द्रव या ठोस रूप में उपलब्ध होते हैं । पर गैस साधारण सर्दी और दबाव पाने पर भी अपनी अवस्था नहीं बदलती । भाप दो प्रकार की होती है— एक आर्द्र, दूसरी अनार्द्र । आर्द्र भाप वह है जो अधिक ठढक पाकर गाढ़ी हो गई हो और अति सूक्ष्म बूँदों के रूप में, कहीं कुहरे, कहीं बादल आदि के रूप में दिखाई पड़े । अनार्द्र भाप अत्यंत सूक्ष्म और गैस के समान अगोचर पदार्थ है जो वायुमंडल में सब जगह अंशंशि रूप में न्यूनाधिक फैली हुई है । यहि जब अधिक दबाव या ठढक पाती है, तब आर्द्र भाप बन जाती है ।

Description

पानी की गैसीय अवस्था या जलवाष्प को भाप (steam) कहते हैं। शुष्क भाप अदृश्य होती है, परंतु जब भाप में जल की छोटी-छोटी बूँदें मिली होती हैं तब उसका रंग सफेद होता है, जैसा रेल के इंजन से निकलती भाप में स्पष्ट दिखाई देता है। जब भाप में जल की बूँदे उपस्थित होती हैं, तो इसे 'आर्द्र भाप' कहते हैं। यदि जल की बूँदों का सर्वथा अभाव हो तो यह 'शुष्क भाप' कहलाती है।

This may occur due to evaporation or due to boiling, where heat is applied until water reaches the enthalpy of vaporization. Steam that is saturated or superheated is invisible; however, wet steam, a visible mist or aerosol of water droplets, is often referred to as "steam".
