Description

वाहिकारोध (embolism) से आशय किसी वाहिका (embolus) का अवरोधित होना है। वाहिका का अवरोध रक्त के जमने से हो सकता है या रक्तधारा में गैस के बुलबुलेले (globule) से हो सकता है और इससे रक्त-प्रवाह रुक सकता है। यद्यपि वाहिकारोध का घटक साधारणतया रक्त का थक्का होता है, तथापि वसा और वायु के भी रक्तस्रोतरोधन बनते हैं। वसावाहिकारोध अस्थिभंग में मज्जा से और वात-वाहिकारोध शिरा में वायुप्रवेश से होते हैं।
