विपरीत ADJ

1. जो मेल में या अनुरूप न हो । जो विपर्यय के रूप में हो । उलटा । विरुद्ध । खिलाफ ।
2. किसी की इच्छा या हित के विरुद्ध । प्रतिकूल । जैसे,—विपरीत आचरण ।
3. अनिष्टसाधन में तत्पर । रुष्ट । जैसे,—दैव या विधि का विपरीत होना ।
4. हितसाधन के अनुपयुक्त । दुःखद । जेसे,— विपरीत समय ।
5. मिथ्या । असत्य ।
6. व्यत्यस्त अर्थात् उलटा या प्रतिकूल अभिनय करनेवाला ।

विपरीत NOUN

1. केशव के अनुसार एक अर्थालंकार, जिसमें कार्य की सिद्धि में स्वयं साधक का बाधक होना दिखाया जाता है । जैसे,—'राधा जू सों कहा कहौं दुतिन की मानैं सीख साँ पनी सहित विषरहित फनिन की । क्यों न पैर बीच, बीच आँगियौ न सहि सकै, बीच परी अंगना अनेक आँगननि की' । (यहाँ दूती को साधक होना चाहिए था, पर वह बाधक हुई) ।
