अलसी या तीसी समशीतोष्ण प्रदेशों का पौधा है। रेशेदार फसलों में इसका महत्वपूर्ण स्थान है। इसके रेशे से मोटे कपड़े, डोरी, रस्सी और टाट बनाए जाते हैं। इसके बीज से तेल निकाला जाता है और तेल का प्रयोग वार्निश, रंग, साबुन, रोगन, पेन्ट तैयार करने में किया जाता है। चीन सन का सबसे बड़ा उत्पादक देश है। रेशे के लिए सन को उपजाने वाले देशों में रूस, पोलैण्ड, नीदरलैण्ड, फ्रांस, चीन तथा बेल्जियम प्रमुख हैं और बीज निकालने वाले देशों में भारत, संयुक्त राज्य अमरीका तथा अर्जेण्टाइना के नाम उल्लेखनीय हैं। सन के प्रमुख निर्यातक रूस, बेल्जियम तथा अर्जेण्टाइना हैं।
