प्रहसन किंवा फार्स हा नाटकाचा तसेच चित्रपटाचा एक विशिष्ट प्रकार आहे. भरतमुनींनी आपल्या नाट्यशास्त्रात वर्णन केल्याप्रमाणे प्रहसन हा दहा रूपकांपैकी (नाट्यप्रकारांपैकी) एक प्रकार आहे. भरताने प्रहसनाचे दोन भेद सांगितले आहेत. शुद्ध आणि संकीर्ण. आणखी एक वैकृत नावाचा संकीर्ण प्रहसनाचा उपप्रकार आहे. प्रहसनात यथोचित 'वीथ्यंगे' उपयोजावीत, त्यात मुख व निर्वहण हे दोन 'संधि' असावेत आणि आवश्यकतेनुसार एक वा दोन अंक असावेत, असे भरताने म्हटले आहे. प्रहसनांत कैशिकी आणि आरभटी वृत्तींना थारा असू नये असे नाट्यशास्त्र व इतर सहग्रंथ म्हणतात.

Farce is a comedy that seeks to entertain an audience through situations that are highly exaggerated, extravagant, ridiculous, absurd, and improbable. Farce is also characterized by heavy use of physical humor; the use of deliberate absurdity or nonsense; satire, parody, and mockery of real-life situations, people, events, and interactions; unlikely and humorous instances of miscommunication; ludicrous, improbable, and exaggerated characters; and broadly stylized performances.
