Radium is a chemical element; it has symbol Ra and atomic number 88. It is the sixth element in group 2 of the periodic table, also known as the alkaline earth metals. Pure radium is silvery-white, but it readily reacts with nitrogen (rather than oxygen) upon exposure to air, forming a black surface layer of radium nitride (Ra₃N₂). All isotopes of radium are radioactive, the most stable isotope being radium-226 with a half-life of 1,600 years. When radium decays, it emits ionizing radiation as a by-product, which can excite fluorescent chemicals and cause radioluminescence.

રેડીયમ એ એક રાસાયણિક તત્વ છે જેનો અણુ ક્રમાંક ૮૮ અને જેની સંજ્ઞા Ra છે. રેડિઅયમ એ અત્યંત શુભ્ર એવી સફેદ આલ્ક્લાઇન પાર્થિવ ધાતુ]] છે. હવામં ખુલ્લીરાખતાં આ ધતુનું ઓક્સિડેશન થાઈ તે કાળી પડી જાય છે. રેડિઅયમના દરેક સમસ્થાનિકો અત્યંત કિરણોત્સારી હોય છે. તેમાં સૌથી વધુ સ્થિરતા ધરાવતું સમસ્થાનિક છે રેડિયમ-૨૨૬ જેનો અર્ધ આયુષ્ય કાળ ૧૬૦૧ વર્શ હોય છે. અને કિરણોત્સારી ખવાણ થઈ તે રેડૉન વાયુમાં રૂપાંતરીત થઈ જાય છે. આવી અસ્થિરતાને કારણે રેડિયમ એક ચળકતો પદાર્થ છે કે હલા ભૂરા રંગે ચળકે છે.
