A necklace is an article of jewellery that is worn around the neck. Necklaces may have been one of the earliest types of adornment worn by humans. They often serve ceremonial, religious, magical, or funerary purposes and are also used as symbols of wealth and status, given that they are commonly made of precious metals and stones.

गळ्यातला सर्वात महत्त्वाचा अलंकार म्हणजे हार होय.हार हा अलंकार सोने,चांदी, मोती या धातू मध्ये असते. आता खूप प्रमाणात हार अलंकार वापरता. सध्या चंद्रहार, राणी हार मोठ्या प्रमाणत वापरतात. हाराविषयी संस्क्रृत साहित्यात असंख्य उल्लेख आहेत- हारोग्यं हरिणाक्षीणां लुण्ठति स्तनमण्डले, | अर्थ –हा हार हरीणाक्षींच्या स्तनमडलावर लोळतो पाण्डघोड्यंमंसार्पितलम्बहार अर्थ – या पाण्ड्य राजाने खांद्यावर लांब हार घातला आहे.
