வெடிகுண்டு (bomb) என்பது வெடிபொருளின் வெப்பம் உமிழ்கின்ற வேதியியல் எதிர்வினையைச் சார்ந்து வெடிக்கும் நிலையிலுள்ள கருவிகள் ஆகும். இது வெடிக்கும்போது உடனடியாக வன்முறையான முறையில் ஆற்றலை வெளிப்படுத்தும். வெடிகுண்டு என்ற சொல் கிரேக்க சொல்லான βόμβος என்பதிலிருந்து வந்ததாகும். ஆங்கிலத்தில் உள்ள "பூம்" என்ற சொல்லும் ஏறக்குறைய இதே அர்த்தத்தில் உள்ளது. ஒரு அணு ஆயுதம் வேதியியல் அடிப்படையிலான வெடிபொருட்களுடன் பயன்படுத்தப்பட்டு அணு சார்ந்து மிகப்பெரிய அளவில் வெடிக்கிறது.
